The revelation this week that Donald Trump, Jr., met with Russian officials in an effort to obtain information damaging to Hillary Clinton powerfully belies President Donald Trump's claim that this is a "witch hunt" and there was no collaboration between his campaign and Russia.

Trump has been embroiled in a scandal over his campaign's ties with Russia - which US intelligence agencies say tried to tip the 2016 US election in his favour.

"That's a discretionary act that the statute allows the attorney general to do in extraordinary circumstances".

The trickle of information culminated in Trump Jr.'s decision on Tuesday to release the chain of emails that set up the meeting. "I think it's very important", Trump says in response to a question. The two men have known each other for decades, and both are hard-charging, prideful and brash. "The use of funding prohibitions to deny or remove security clearances is simply a political stunt and utterly unnecessary because security clearances can already be revoked because of criminal conduct".

That breaks sharply with what the Times has reported.

President Trump said Democrats and the media are overplaying their hand on allegations of his campaign's collusion with Russia, and it's creating a backlash with voters. "And we made the
